Bench 2.0!! Another wonderful day of bench building with the dream team!

Another amazing day. I left smiling again. I am bowled over by just how enthusiastic and generous B and S are with their time and effort into making this bench! I am forever grateful. Today I was later than 12, which worried me as I have no means of communication so I thought they may have left thinking I was a no show, but they were still gardening and awaiting my arrival. They stayed! The minute I got there, they immediately spoke of ideas for the bench, which made me so happy as it meant that they were excited and had been thinking about it...which I hope means it is not just a burden but also fun. The ideas were:

The way we constructed the legs today, using the four legs and doubling them up on top of each other sideways, two on each side, for greater stability

The design: having some waterproof foam seats with a waterproof table cloth design sewn/upholstered onto it with e.g. garden veg/ floral design to make comfy and add to the aesthetic. To also paint the legs as S likes colour, and sand down and teak oil all over, leaving some areas with a wood finish.

^This is my task this week....apparently they have this in the market I can look for. Between the two of them, the ideas are full to the brim! They helped problem-solve our tool shortage and how best to drill (the not long enough or too long) screws into the sections to put the legs on and the backing with the planters.

B has ideas for seasonal plants to plant in them for May time, not too tall, but beautiful flowers.

Next week Ros is doing a clay workshop, but we also plan to sand down, teak oil and hopefully begin designing and practicing with pyrography/painting.

I will also bring in posters/save the dates, and ask for permission for audio recordings...

The conversation and team work today will be something I hold on to! We had a production line going on, B planning logistics of where to place everything, gluing, hammering, S sawing and hammering and also problem-solving logistical placement, me drilling the screws in. I must make them thank you cards!!!! (This eve; a painting of a bench!)

Old tales of jobs and woodwork at school also come from this making and constructing, too.

Purchased to try upholstering...just for the bottom, not the back! I featured the image of the cushioned-palette-bench as it popped up and I thought it fitting! Additionally, I have been playing around with singing and playing my guitar a traditional May folksong called 'The Old Garden Gate' as perhaps a feature in the sound piece...eek!

Further update: got some outdoor gardening paint testers, pyrography pen and tarpaulin !
