Seeds of Serenity: Cultivating Calm Minds and Connection through Gardening and Bench-craft

You may have come here through scanning the QR code on the bench, or have tuned in live from a poster or callout...

However you have come about this project, I welcome you to take a moment to pause as though you were resting on a bench in spring, cocooned by the sounds of birds, the wind, people...life! It encourages you to listen deeply, and to reach moments like this in nature that perhaps you may not otherwise have a moment to, or be able to do.

The bench, the sound and the location represent my moments of pausing and realising just how powerful connection and collaboration with community, strangers or friends alike, is on our lives. Particularly being outside getting fresh earth between the nails and mouth (haha!).

I hope this encourages feelings of peace, calm and laughter felt during this time spent. I couldn't be more grateful for the wonderful community who made this project. I have learned so much about gardening and the spiritual effect it can have on a person's soul, but also how it can help facilitate conversation and relation, much like artmaking...being welcomed here and proposing a crafted bench, collaboratively designed with and for the gardening group lead to such fun and a real depth of connection. Everyone has had a role in some way in turning their hands to the project, in such a creative and resourceful manner. The bench has found a place for all. A catalyst for creativity, and all the unique interests and identities of each of the members of the group.
