Learning about natural cycles over the next three months working alongside the gardening group and for the art trail.
Learnings and reflections from reading the Seasonal 2024 Almanac by Lia Leendertz... I am learning about the garden and wildlife of each month I will be with the group gardening, inspiring the way I work and interact with nature and the sound piece and artworks I produce, with a particular focus on May period (17-19) of the art trail to align the planned Live Stream with any natural phenomena/timings of sunrise/sunset/moon. I also reflect on Pontypridd as a nature reserve and all the wildlife within it thanks to the sign beside the group all about species in the park https://rctlnp.wixsite.com/rct-actionfornature/species-of-rct and the Natur Ponty Manifesto created in collaboration with artists, scientists and young people of Ponty informing as about its richness of local wildlife and ways we can change to protect it!

First readings and learnings about the end of Feb, and beginning of March in these current months. Amazing to align the sowing, potting and identifying of the plants we have been working with in the group with the advice of the gardening in the book....to put the sounds of the birds to the understanding of their mating season, to the warming of the earth for shoots to form, to the full moons and the extraordinary species that exist just on the doorstep, has been eye-opening. Even more exciting is the podcaset Lia Leendertz does at the start of each month for things to identify and acknowledge in our natural world...she also collaborates with musician and sound artist Alice Boyd whose work I admire. The way the 'found sound' of the month is done is so inspiring for any sound work I may do in association with my work in the park and the bench made.

Continued readings of April and May...I have learned about when the moons are, the types of flowers and growth that occurs in these months, and the timings of sunrise and sunset etc...very helpful when understanding gardening and the way nature is living and talking to us each month....it is helping me notice more and become more in tune. I am grateful for this. Today was St David's Day/March 1st/the first meteorological day of spring, and this morning felt like it...the daffodils were out on campus, the sky was blue and the sun was out, and I found a trodden on daff to rescue and carry with me, and the branch of a cherry blossom that had sadly been cut down. The branches are very much still alive, so I want to ask how to propagate these if possible at the next gardening session. I can feel myself feeling lighter in the spring and eager to stay outdoors. I have researched many a walk to pursue and find the wild garlic, blue bells and forage kindly, gathering sounds as I go along.
