What a wonderful day: beginning bench construction with B and S!!

I am naming the two wonderful gardeners B and S. They were soooo helpful today. They came out of their own time at 1pm exactly (!) to help me out and work as a team problem-solving ways of creating and making this bench...As Becky so beautifully put it: it "fed my soul".

A time-lapsed video of the process:

The first thing S said to me was that he'd been having ideas about the bench, amazing! He thought a bench for children might be nice, slightly smaller with stickers and designs of animals on it. B and S both problem-solved together the best ways of construction: B had ideas about the legs (shown above), using the ends and middles of the palettes and S worked hard at sawing all the wood. We had a little production line going on, all the while talking the world away. S had great ideas about ways of reinforcement and B helped select the best wood for sitting on and using in the design of the back of the raised beds. Once we had strengthened the legs and planned the design, we realised we needed even longer screws to get through all the sections to join the back, seat and legs...6 inch B measured the screws needed to be, as well as both suggesting getting 'no nails' wood glue to fix some splits. This is our plan for next week! They kindly will stay beyond 12 so we can do this next Wednesday.
